In heavy fog, the Selah Chamberlain was struck on the port bow by the steamer, John Pridgeon Jr.and cut to the waterline. Five crew died when the lifeboat, Davits became fouled and the boat dumped into the lake. Others made it ashore in the other boat after a 3-hour pull through the fog.
